World of Warcraft is a teen-rated massive multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG) created by Blizzard Entertainment. As with most MMORPGs, World of Warcraft accommodates players of varying skill, dedication, and experience by providing more than 60 different levels of difficulty.

As is also typical of these kinds of games, World of Warcraft has a complicated backstory, although it is not necessary to know it before beginning the game. There are a number of sites for fans, and a visually complex and engaging world of fanciful characters and settings. The game world is persistent--that is, a player may log off and return at a later time, picking up from where he or she left off. Fans of these types of games may play over a period of many months, gradually accumulating experience, alliances, and online friends.

Basic Features of World of Warcraft

A new World of Warcraft player will customize a hero (his or her online game-playing identity) from within the universe of choices provided by the game. Experience points may be gained through combat or non-combat quests through the mythical world of the game. Cities, dungeons, forests, mountain peaks, and other environmental elements of the game create an entire virtual world for the player to explore.

New quests and elements are added to the game regularly, so even veteran players need never get bored. The graphics, gameplay, and interface are generally considered to be among the best in the field. Blizzard Entertainment has also made a number of other titles in the Warcraft series.
